Desogesterol breakthrough period

bleeding

#1

@Dr_Paula I have been on this pill for over a year with no issues. I rarely used to have periods and when I did they would last 2 or 3 days and wouldn’t be more than spotting or a light flow.

Now I’ve been on a period for nearly 4 weeks and the flow fluctuates throughout the day, going from light to heavy to regular and it’s showing no signs of stopping.

My GP said it was a breakthrough period but I’m not sure.

Hello @Amanda_Craddock

Apologies for my slow response - I am very behind with this forum at the moment.

Normally if anyone experiences a change in bleeding pattern on the pill we would normally recommend that they do a pregnancy test, an STI check and make sure that they are up to date with smear tests (if you are old enough to have smear tests- they start at age 24-5).

If the bleeding continues we would also recommend an internal examination, just to look at the cervix and see where the bleeding is coming from.

If everything is normal then we would normally put it down to the pill - but it is important to do the other checks first.

Many tahnks

Paula
