From pill to coil

contraception

#1

@Dr_Paula
I currently take the combined pill continually as advised by my GP as I suffer very bad cramps, and this completely stops all bleeding for as long as I take my pills. ( I have used this method for over 5 years)
I am considering getting the hormonal coil and am wondering if the chance is high of this too stopping my periods given that the combined pill does.
As I understand it the IUS only uses progesterone so does this make it less likely to stop periods than my combined pill?

Hello @Questionably

Many thanks for your question. The hormonal coil is very likely to stap your periods once you have had it for 6 months to 1 year. Having said that quite a lot of people have irregular bleeding at the start - particularly the first 6 months. Many thanks
