If you miss a pill, should you take two the next day or what is the best thing to do?

A few of my friends say that you should take two the next day. Does that do anything/is that bad for you? Or should you just carry on as normal?

Thanks for the question - the answer depends on whether you are taking the combined pill with 2 hormones or the progestagen only pill which just has the one - which pill are you on?

For the combined pill. A missed pill is one that is taken more than 24 hours late. If you miss a pill then take it as soon as you remember it, take the next one on time and keep taking the pill. If you miss one pill this will not affect your contraceptive cover.
If you miss 2 or more pills then you will not be protected for contraception for the next 7 days. If you miss 2 or more pills then you should also check how many pills you have left in the pack. If you have less than 7 then keep taking the pill but do not stop for your 7 day break. If you have more than 7 pills then you can just keep taking the pill as normal.

For the progesterone only pill there are 2 types. The older types (like micronor) have a 3 hour window period and the new ones (like Cerazette) have a 12 hour window period. If you miss one progesterone only pill then you take it as soon as you remember, take the next one on time and keep taking the pill. You will not be covered for contraception for the next 48 hours.

Does this make sense to you? Im happy to answer specific questions if any of this is not clear.
