The Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health Care have just published guidance called:
‘Overweight, Obesity and Contraception’
I am not sure whether it is OK to categorise people in this way - but it does have some potentially important information including:
Women who weigh over 70kgs who are taking levonorgestrel for emergency contraception should take a double dose of this medication - this is worth knowing - especially if you are buying it over the counter. Double does is not recommended for the other form of emergency contraception - ulipristal acetate.
The risks of combined hormonal contraception (containing oestrogen and progestagen) generally outweigh the benefits for women with a BMI over 35 - you can check your BMI here https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/
It would be interesting to hear what others think - we will run an Instagram story on this today.
